Bay Area Flash Mob
Co-founded in 2009 by Jennifer Arbuckle, Carol Johnstone, Jacqui Magee, Marcia Nisam, and Julien Ray, the Bay Area Flash Mob is a dance group that is open to anyone who wants to dance and perform. This awesomely hip and enthusiastic group has been known to re-create iconic dance sequences from the music videos of such artists as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Lady Gaga. For their latest project, Bay Area Flash Mob will re-create choreography from the Party Rock video by the electropop duo—LMFAO— also featuring Lauren Bennett and Goonrock.
So how does it work?
Bay Area Flash Mob will typically start by posting the choreography on-line in a customized format. One version will be at a reduced speed for those who are new to the choreography and/or may have less dance experience, while the other version will be a full-speed tutorial. In addition, this group will schedule studio rehearsals (often at Studio Gracia, 19 Heron Street, SF, CA 94103) to give all the dancers a chance to go through the steps as well as work on spacing.
Bay Area Flash Mob schedules frequent appearances in the SF Bay Area, with their most recent performance (Lady Gaga Dance Flash Mob) on June 23rd, 2012 for San Francisco Pride. For anyone who wants to get involved, check out the links below.
